p. 2

This is the page when Jen starts striving to know more about Eric. As she says, “So: I don’t know your name!” Eric then avoids the question and simply hints for her to check the workroom assignments. She then states that she would rather have him tell her, but he does not respond and she ends up looking up the workroom assignments and believing that he is Mr. Thomas Lyle Chadwick. Eric, however, does not refute this statement and instead agrees, although he has been using someone else’s ID to access the workrooms. This marks one of the first times Eric lies to Jen, and also one of the first times their relationship begins to progress past simply talking about the book. She makes it quite clear that she wants to learn more about him on this page, although he does not willingly provide the requested information. This page also shows the development of their relationship, because in purple ink, which means she was writing it later, Jen responds saying, “Oh, you thought you were so clever.” This page hints at the fact that their relationship develops throughout the text, and that he is not actually Thomas Chadwick.
