S folds the newspaper and tucks it into his coat pocket. On his way back to the building, he slips and falls several times. As S approaches the building’s door way, he skids and falls again due to a sudden gust. He studies his reflection in the window as he struggles to stand, and concludes that his youth can no longer be found from his face.

The concept of “youth” catches the attention of both Eric and Jen. Eric comments that, while he is in the hospital, he realizes he is not young anymore. Although he is not yet 30, he spends nearly a decade studying VMS’ work with “no payoff, no satisfaction, no career”. Neither is he confident enough to start over and “reinvent himself”. Jen tries to appease Eric by saying that he may have, while not in an obvious way, reinvented himself while working.

In her later comment (orange color), Jen ties the concept of “youth” to the prospect of a college graduate. “Leaving college means you can’t think of yourself as a kid anymore”, she writes,

“and sometimes that’s exciting–but sometimes it’s totally depressing.”
