This page continues to detail S’s exploration of the orlop deck. When he enters the room, he finds numerous crates filled with papers and pages scattered across the floor. Each page is covered with fragments of writing from the sailors. He finds all the necessary tools to write, and he sits down and begins to write. Finally, S is able to write with an actual piece of paper and pen, rather than the usual nail and wall, and he is thrilled by this concept.

Pot of ink and pen most likely similar to the one that S found on the desk and was using.

In regards to marginalia, the interactions between Jen and Eric on this page are quite limited. There is simply an early comment by Eric stating, Self as something finite/diminishing. Jen then responds saying, I don’t have a whole lot left… This quote relates directly to a common theme of identity. Jen is consistently questioning who she is and who she will become, and it is apparent throughout this text that the drama of what is occurring around her is taking a strong emotional toll on her. She becomes paranoid about certain things and this quote further highlights her emotional challenges.
