p. 194

This page immediately starts out with Corbeau, the only alive one left with S, identifying the smell that surrounds them: salt. All of the sudden, S and Corbeau realize that they are able to see each other, meaning that an exit to the cave is near. As they run along the cavern walls, more light is let in and they are sprinting towards it as fast as possible. Soon enough, they hear the sounds of the ocean, and they stand at the edge of the cave directly above the waves, and within reach of their escape route from the trackers. As the text says, “What begins at the water shall end there, and what ends there shall once more begin,” (194).

Cave with exit over ocean. Most likely similar to what Corbeau and S encountered.

Within the margins, Jen’s paranoia is still quite present. She saw a section of text that was underlined and commented that it was not underlined before. With this comment, she was most likely assuming that a stranger had had access to the book. Eric simply responds saying, I know. I just did it.

Furthermore, when the text states, “There’s no time,” Jen comments stating that FXC and VMS did not have enough time either. It is clear that time is crucial in the story of FXC and VMS, as well as love. As Jen says, Love => when it’s more important to take in the spectacular than to worry about the pressing business of staying alive. This not only refers to S in the text, VMS and FXC, but also Jen and Eric. It is clear that Jen and Eric are falling in love. This concept is then furthered when Jen states at the bottom of the page, Wish I could get word to you… Eric is off on one of his research trips, and it is clear that Jen is missing him.
