p. 293

This page details his journey back to the deck, after reading in the shack. Although not necessary, S chose to race down the side of the volcano to the dock. While doing so, he collapsed on the rocky, black beach and tore up his knees on the rough terrain. As the book vividly states, “His trousers are in ribbons and blood is pooling, damp and sticky, in his shoes.” Despite his horrid injuries, S continue to sprint towards the ship unnoticed.

Volcanic rock.

This marginalia takes up where the last page left off, beginning with the discussion of whether or not Jen and Eric should continue using the book as a place to keep all of their notes and interactions. Eric continues his thoughts from the previous page by saying, But I still love that we’re doing it. Love hearing you in the margins. SOT my favorite book, it was the central text for my dissertation, and now it’s also this scrapbook of us. Jen then responds by saying, So we’re scrapbooking partners. That’s hot. Eric then agrees to Jen’s sarcastic comment by saying, Ok, you’re right that’s lame. But don’t you still like doing it this way, too? At least when we can’t be together? Jen then sweetly responds saying, Of course. But I’d rather be together more. At this point it is quite clear that Jen and Eric have formed a strong relationship well beyond the pages of the text.

The next annotation is a detailed account of Moody’s schedule. As this demonstrates, Jen is obviously considering breaking into Moody’s office, however, Eric does not approve and responds by saying, Jen: STOP. This is crazy. Jen then, in an unrelated topic, questions why Guthrie MacInnes did not know who Straka was if he himself was in the S. They then discuss different possibilities of GMI’s involvement, as well as Summersby’s membership to the group.
