S. is introduced to Tupp, a man who works for Vévoda and will help him and Sola with their plan. On the margins, the reader notices a new problem regarding Moody and Ilsa:

Email from the provost. They’re going to investigate the archive thefts. Don’t know how they’ll get into Moody’s house, but still…

How do you feel about the lie?

It wasn’t really a lie. Just a story. I mean, he would have tried to bribe me for access if Ilsa hadn’t been willing to steal for him.

Pretty sure that’s still  a lie.

Well, it can be both. Plus, they won’t care when they find all that stuff he stole. And if they do – so what? I’ll be like 5000 miles away? and I’ve graduated. They’ve got nothing.

On a later round of notes Eric explains that Arturo said a Frenchman gave the envelope to FXC in the mid-70’s. Eric suspects it was Desjardins.
