S. continues to observe the petroglyphs, pointing that each figure is large enough to see from far distance and that the backgrounds have been shaded with blue-black glaze. It is mentioned that the glyphs have been there for a long time due to the cracks on them.

Petroglyph

S.points out the silence throughout the canoe trip, emphasizing the peace, serenity and reverence. When Anca hunches over, and the baby faces the sky, it smiles and gurgles. But once the baby is again faced with S., it returns to solemnity.

In the footnote, FXC mentions that the images of the petroglyphs also appear on the walls in the titular cave of Straka’s fourth novel with subtle yet significant changes. Though, Jen and Eric don’t seem to see any significant changes.
