Maelstrom pushes S. inside the warehouse. The warehouse is large, much bigger than the building in El-H–. It is almost completely filled with crates, and most of the crates have blue-black splotches on them. S. starts to head towards a group of sailors unloading a cart, but Maelstrom points him instead towards a doorway at the back of the warehouse. Maelstrom tells S. that he must visit “the Lady” now. S. immediately wonders if the Lady is Sola.

Eric writes that everyday he sees someone “out of the corner of my eye” who he thinks is Jen, and he is always disappointed when he realizes it is not her. He has never “gotten so close to loving somebody before.”

Jen writes, “that’s the first declaration of not-quite love I’ve ever gotten.”

Eric notes that he is trying to keep perspective, and that their relationship has developed so quickly.

Jen writes that she and her ex-boyfriend didn’t really know what love is, although they said it a lot. Or rather, Jen writes, she didn’t know what love means to her, because love may mean many things.

Jen and Eric don’t often discuss their love for each other, making this a touching moment. They are both still trying to figure out their emotions, but it is clear that they feel strongly for one another.
