“New Village. Built by the Company. …They take the Company’s money and help them steal our hills.”

Hearing what Anca said, S. tries getting a better view but Waqar doesn’t allow it. S. questions whether he has seen this place before. In his dreams? From a previous life? Glancing at the New Village population, which is larger than that of the Old Village, S. thinks about how the different interests (figures on the hills VS riches in the hills) have divided the once united population. S. is reminded of how fewer and fewer of the K— tribe’s artists chose to descend into the dark to paint the walls with history.

In the footnotes, FXC gives another example from Wineblood’s Mine about the similar dynamic that Vévoda’s Company is causing.

In the marginalia, Jen first brings up the phenomena of how many companies Arp Syndikat spun off and how many each of those spun off etc. And also points out that the huge family tree of Bouchard/Arp has already gone out of control.

Later time, using orange and green ink, Jen and Eric talk about Jen’s father doing marketing work for TLQI, a big agriculture business that has ties with Arp/Bouchard. They make ending statements on how it seems impossible to avoid and have no connection to Bouchard/evil, or “that part of the world”.
