Doubt about the movement fills Zapadi’s decrepit house as the Stenfalk, Corbeau, S and others discuss their options. They agree to flee the town and hike over the range to town G- in five or six days. Corbeau has the experience exploring the foothills since his father is an archeologist fascinated by the tale of K people.

Jen and Eric point out that the doubt experienced by the characters echoes the doubt experienced by VMS, when he realizes that Looper has split and takes credit for the work. Eric also points out that Corbeau’s history reflects the story of Amarante Durand, who spent her girlhood on digs and whose father was also an archeologist. Durand, according to Eric, ultimately splits with his father because she found the cave in the Dordogne on her own.
