Krummholz
S. has a dream with Sola where he is in a lake surrounded by krummholz formations, which means twisted wood. When he tries to reach her, he finds that he cannot make it to her. He also dreams that she is on the orlop deck before he is jolted awake.

Throughout the dreams, Sola is waiting and “her face, backlit, is unreadable.” This adds to the illusion and ambiguity of her character.

In the margins, Eric asks if he should meet Jen’s parents, revealing that he thinks they are pretty serious at this point in their relationship. Jen is confused about why they are coming, although it is most likely due to her change in work ethic and lack of a post-graduation plans. She also wonders why Eric even wants to meet them. He shows his shows his support for her, also implying that he may be further invested in the relationship at this point.
I just want to be there…for you, I mean.
