p. 160

We don’t run into a ton of major plot information here, but their are some interesting notes to be explored.

In recognizing that this weapon, similar to a bomb, is “what [Vévoda is] bHiroshima_Dome_1945uilding in the annex” Pfiefer comments that they also know “it smells like the devil’s very arsehole” (160).  This comment on the smell could hint that what was being tested was a nuclear weapon.  After Hiroshima, many people, including a 15 year old, Taeko Teramae, mentioned vomiting from the terrible smell of the bomb.

From the Devil’s ass reference, Jen and Eric come up with the acronym D.V.A to use to refer to Moody.  This only seems to link to a healthcare company, and the Department of Verterans, so the acronym itself does not hold any significance, but D.V.A could reappear later in the book with some sort of relevance.

F.X.C. finishes the page explaing that she wrote to Straka telling him that she is “made of stronger stuff than [he] seem[s] to think” (160).  This note is oddly interjected at the end of the page, and seems almost more like a note to Straka.  While Jen and Eric assume that anything with “ex” is a clue, this seems more like a hint to Straka, explaining that she can take the difficulties in their relationship.
