Eric notes in pencil, beside a paragraph in which S. feels that being silent next to Corbeau when they could be interacting is wrong, that

S. is lonely. Doesn’t trust many people.

This note shows how young Eric identified with S. (and still might) as lonely and not having many trusted friends. Jen sarcastically comments on Eric’s pencil note:

It’s shocking to that you can even begin to identify w/ him.

Although she is mocking him, Jen shows care for Eric and doesn’t seem to be bothered by his reserved personality.

Also, on this page Jen and Eric discuss the possibility of an implication that Durand was older than Straka, which continues to narrow down their research, eliminating the candidacy of Ekstrom, Feuerbach, and Summersby.

Further increasing the intensity of the Straka mystery, Eric tells Jen about a moment in Dejardin’s funeral dinner in which

someone referred to DJ as a widower (…). a couple of people shot him really bad looks + he shut up immediately. Started sweating like crazy. looked mortified.

This implies that something is being hidden and perhaps that Dejardins had a wife with some sort of connection to Straka.
