S. seems to care for the young man that was found. He wants to make sure that Maelstrom will try to save him. S. realizes that he himself has no idea how to help the man. Maelstrom, unsympathetic, suggests that young man might still be useful. The sailors put the man in the chartroom, but Maelstrom prevents S. from entering.

Jen wonders why Eric is not as scared as she is. At this point, it is unclear what Jen is scared about.

Eric insists that he is scared, but that he and Jen are simply different.

“Right. I haven’t died before,” says Jen, ominously. The reader does not yet know what Jen is referring to.

In a footnote FXC makes a comparison to a scene in Straka’s Spotted Cat; however, Eric complains that the footnote has no relevance. Jen suggests that the footnote is part of a code.
