Washington & Greene, one of the many mentioned novels supposedly written by V.M. Straka, was a book that was published in 1929. This book was mentioned three times in the Ship of Theseus, once by FXC, and twice by Jen.
In the first mention of Washington & Greene, FXC states that in her opinion, this is one of his finest novels. Then, when referenced again, Jen mentions that there is a character in this book that gets a cut across all of her fingers in the factory. The last time this book is mentioned, which is on page 365, Jen states that Washington & Greene is very similar to V.M. Straka’s book A Hundred Aprils in Amritsar, but instead of being about the Amritsar Massacre, it is about the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. Clearly, Straka has some sort of hatred for power and injustice.
The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, which occurred in Manhattan on March 25, 1911, was a horrible occurrence. The factory owners locked all doors to avoid workers taking unnecessary breaks, but then when the factory caught on fire there were no means of escape. 146 garment workers were killed. This disaster led to many unions and improved conditions and regulations across the nation.
