Sola describes her time with the Lady “Curating. Translating. Binding. Restoring what can be restored.” She was also to the island on a similar ship with a different crew, just as S. was. S. and Sola are clearly two parallel parts in the puzzle of the ships and their purpose to combat Vévoda and evil. The difference between Sola and S. is that Sola has stopped asking questions and accepts her missions with conviction. She trusts the greater purpose of their work on and off the ships.
“Why? Asking why is like asking why the sky is above us, why the stars are beyond it. They’re good questions, to be sure, but they have no answers, and at some point one chooses not to ask anymore.”
Once the gangway to the ship is lowered, Sola does not want to waste anymore time talking and moves forward on the ice to board the ship.
In the margins, Eric tells Jen that he went to Ilsa to tell her that Jen’s paper was all her own. Jen questions why Eric chose to trust her when she may have stolen his paper. His trust shows that he feels stronger to Jen and understands who she is and how she would not steal the paper. Not only did his conversation get Ilsa to back off, but it also allowed him to tie loose ends by saying that he was no longer mad at her.
We’re all just trying to figure out what we want & get closer to having it – and compared to all the straka vs. bouchard, s vs. new s, bouchard vs. all the peace & fairness remaining in the world, none of it matters all that much.
This shows how Eric feels that even though they are all striving for personal goals. There are many more issues present in the world that are greater than them. This also outlines some of the greater conflicts occurring within the world of the margins. It is clear who is against who and how ultimately, the peace of the world is in a delicate balance.
