In the reality of the moment, S “very nearly blurts I love you.” Jen and Eric link this to the possibility that this was Straka’s way of telling FXC that he loved her. Jen argues that by doing it that way, Straka “get[s] to duck doing it in person, [he’s] risking less, [he’s] exposing [himself] less.” That isn’t what is important, what matters is telling FXC in person. Ultimately, Eric makes the point that “FXC made her own choices, too.”
The room that S. and Sola stand in is the same room Sobreiro died in. S. can’t help but feel as though Sola knows more about him than he does and that their link to Sobreiro is “quite a coincidence.” She suggests that it is “perhaps a coincidence{, or] perhaps a tradition.” Throughout Ship of Theseus, the fictional Sobreiro and his work, Archer’s Tales is referenced. Sola’s makes an excellent point here. All along, S. has thought that perhaps he and Sobreiro are connected but how, he does not know. In this moment it becomes apparent that perhaps their connection is much like the ship S. travelled on throughout. The elements of the ship can change but at the end of the day, the ship is the same. S. and Sobreiro are connected through their story, they are made of different “stuff” but ultimately they are the same people in different time periods.
