The governor continues to beg for mercy before they hear an outbreak of gunfire coming from a distance. The governor reveals that they had received word that several explosives had gone missing from a warehouse, and that the Old Villagers were planning using them to bomb the docks that S.’s ship was docked. He figured that it would be best to stop them before they did. S. responds with, “You’re killing them.”
This page seems to foreshadow the potential destruction of the ship, however, the governor’s troops could ironically be the ones to save it. S.’s final remark, “you’re killing them”, serves to highlight the extent to which Pfiefer has changed over time; going from a man opposed to the suffering that Vévoda inspired to one who becomes complicit in a similar situation.
In their third round of notes, Eric tells Jen that in order for Moody to legally use the Summersby tape he must get consent from Eric. He explains his plan to Jen as, I’m going to use it to get Esme Emerson Plum to meet w/me. Whereupon I’ll blow Moody’s whole argument to shit.
It looks the Eric is finally getting the upper hand in his race against Moody.
