The ship sees airplanes in the horizon, their engines making a deafening noise as if they were directly above them. Another flash of light sweeps the sky and suddenly, everything is silent. The planes have disappeared, the ship has stopped rocking and the sea is calm again. Maelstrom remarks fearfully, “They’re in. Aint tract us yet, bu’ they’re in.” They mostly likely refers to Vevoda’s troop that is hunting S. The flash of light signifies that Vevoda is approaching closer to the ship and they are in danger of being found.
A new plan is concocted. Maelstrom decides to take the ship to he Obsidian Island to empty the ships’s hold. As the ship gets ready to change course, Maelstrom grabs S and warns him that while they are dropping him off in the “Territs,” he has not won yet. Thus, it is clear that S still does not want to stay on the ship and perhaps never will.
