For some strange reason this woman has a half sealed mouth. This reoccurring image is extremely grotesque but could be a part of Straka’s message about writing. If we can not talk, the only way for us to truly communicate is through writing. Connect this with the violence from writing theme and it could seem that Straka is telling us that we must all be writers, as it helps us find truer emotions.
When S looks at the obsidian around the woman’s neck, he seems to have some strange conversation telepathically with her. First of all, the usage of obsidian is interesting, as obsidian’s meaning is supposed to be that it protects the weak from harm. S, the weak in this case, is lectured about making decisions, and not overthinking them. He tries to argue that he can’t make big choices without knowing their outcomes. However, as Eric points out,
we never know how things will work out, but we must have faith.
S is certainly lacking faith as he will never trust people, and makes very few good decisions.
