S. sees some of the artwork. One painting is of a man with a fierce, protecting dog. FXC says the painting could be “De Schrijver Vermoedt Niets” by a Dutch artist, Gerrit van Swygert. This is a made up artist, both in Jen and Eric’s world and ours.

The painting’s description evokes the style of Rembrandt.

Jen thinks FXC sees herself as the dog in the photo and Straka as the man. Eric believes that theory suggests that she was more than just a translator in this work. She protected him and thus involved in other areas of his life. Jen wonders what was in Grand Central, since they’re relationship exceeded that between a typical writer and translator.
