Pfeifer sets out to ignite the junkyard to distract the attention of the authority. The rest of the team will leave when “the smoke and flames rise and the sirens start wailing” and reconvene at a particular grove of white oaks in the valley.

Minutes pass, but the sirens have not come. S feels something familiar in the room–the insecurity and the worry that increasingly grows as Pfeifer has been out for longer time.

Eric points out that “particular grove of white oaks” is a reference to Erkstrom, who created the much-love children play “White Oak Chronicles (1901).”
