On this page the reader gets a first impression of Pfeifer and Ostrero. It’s interesting that already at this time S. senses something strange in Pfeifer and questions himself: “has he been too trusting already?”
Eric notes in the first round of notes that a
reporter (hoeppner, I think?) for a german mag tracked down feuerbach in ’37 – claimed he was living near heidelberg, supported by anarchist groups who revered him for haymarket.
In a round of notes that came later on Jen notes:
Turns out Hoeppner article + Rybark interview were both in mags owned by Bouchard companies.
This difference shows the trajectory of Jen and Eric’s investigation. The fact that the magazine was owned by Bouchard implies manipulation of the media and the people. The reader can no longer assume Feuerbach was even an anarchist or was related to Haymarket. This manipulation of the media in Jen and Eric’s reality is closely related to the manipulation by Vévoda of the media in Ship of Theseus.
There is no obvious relationship between the names Feuerbach, Hoeppner, and the real Haymarket Square riot in real life.
