As S. and Sola walk away from the life they once lived, they spot “another ship.” This is unlike the ship S. has travelled on throughout the novel, this has “flags flying and sailors working on deck,” this is the beginning of a new life.

Eric feels as though “even Filomela’s version is a little ambiguous” but Jen doesn’t agree. This ending is clear in that S. and Sola start a new life together (just as FXC likely would have wanted it).
