This is really interesting that the issue of access to high-speed internet is becoming such a societal concern: as it should be. Like one of the article that we’ve read earlier in the semester, media and internet literacy is starting to not only occupy the stage, but steal the spotlight from, the importance of a thorough understanding of literature. Reading “The Rutland Herald,” the spread of Verizon high speed to the more rural parts of the state is a major platform for politicians. And while I realize that the internet connects people more than it alienates them (skype has been a god-send this junior year), I cannot help but feel that the vibe in my coffee shop has changed now that there’s free wifi and everyone is glued to their laptop screens and ipods– yours truly included.
