Gate Alarms

Please respond to all gate alarms that go off when a person is exiting the library.

Say:
“Sorry for the trouble, could you please pause while we figure out what is setting off the alarm?”
If it is not immediately apparent what caused the alarm, please use process of elimination to figure out the problem.
(Not much fun – but it gets easier with practice!)

Common problems:
Book did not get de-sensitized properly at check-out
DVD from a local video store
Used books – personal copies
Various electronic items

Not so common a problem (thankfully!):
Library materials – attempted theft of books, DVD’s and magazines

Refer any problems to a supervisor.

Main Library – please record all gate alarms – even false ones – on the log sheet.

Spring items on reserve

Kellam and I are adding items to reserve for Spring Term. The processed books and media are located on the shelves at the end of the media shelving “Spring Reserve items – do not touch”.
If you are looking for an item that indicates it’s on reserve – and you can’t locate it in the WT reserve area – check the item record in Millennium. If the item record indicates that it’s on reserve for spring term, it will be in this area.
These items can circulate, IF you follow these procedures:
– Print out a copy of the item record and place it on the reserve shelf (opposite the check-in station) indicating the book has been checked out
– Change the due date of the item to Feb. 6
Thanks!

Flash HD Camcorders

A couple of questions have come up about the new Flash HD Camcorders.
Please check go/equipment for more info.

Camcorders are available for a one-day loan and can be reserved in advance through the Circulation Desk.

Flash HD Camcorders include a battery pack, power adapter, and USB cable. Video is recorded onto the camera’s built-in memory, or onto a personal memory card (not included with the camera). No cassette tape needed!

We do not provide memory cards – they can be purchased at the College Bookstore

No firewire cable is needed – a usb cable is provided
(users may need to adjust the usb setting to”pc/printer” or “connect&set”

Quick Tips
To charge: insert pink end of power cord into pink part of camcorder. Light will flash when charging and stay solid red when complete

Branch Courier Bins – Tracking Sheets

Due to a new courier service system for moving library materials between the branches, we need to carefully track courier bin activity.

Fill out and enclose a “Courier Bin Tracking Sheet” form when packing bins
Check for a sheet when unpacking bins
If you unpack a bin and there is no tracking sheet, please check for – and record – the transit time/date details in the item record – before scanning the barcode and clearing the transit status.

Tracking sheets should be available at all branch locations

Return all sheets to Elin – there is a blue folder in Main Lib 250A for completed tracking sheets

Many thanks!
Elin

Shelf-reading starting today and LC easy

Picking up from where we left off at the end of fall term, we’ll be starting shelf-reading today. All double shifts, after 5pm and on the weekends need to be shelf-reading 20 minutes per students, unless there is Ill work left over from the day shift that takes priority. Each studnet needs to record where you ended, your initials and the date on the tally sheet in the procedures manual. Any questions check with me. Also, I’ve installed LC easy on the computer closest to my office. Everyone should go through the “begin lesson” section as a refresher.
