Yellow cables at Davis Family Library

The yellow cables are back at the circulation desk of the Davis Family Library. The process is very simple: ID’s in exchange for a cable. No ID = no cable. No exceptions. And vice versa. No cable = no ID upon return. This is only at Davis – the branches are not providing cables.

Two high-end Panasonic video recorders

Circulation now has two Panasonic video recorders. These are to go out ONLY to specific patrons, all of whom have a message in their record allowing them to take out the camera. The cameras also have a message indicating they should only circulate to people with permission in their patron record. They will circulate for 1 day. The cameras will be joining us for the summer and then they will disappear from whence they came.

Reserve and film screening shelf locations

I’ve placed all LS Reserves in a more consolidated spot for the summer. Both books and media will be shelved where we normally shelve only books during the academic year. Since there are fewer items on Reserve during summer term, it’ll be nice to have fewer places to look for Reserve items.

Also, I’ve relocated the film screening shelf (where media/rental films sit with their booking slips attached) for the summer only. It will live at the end of the LS reserves area. Please let me know if you need a brief tour of where things are.

If you have comments or concerns about any of this, please let me know!

Reminder: camera & camcorder check-ins

Just a reminder for Circ Supervisors at Main: there are instructions for checking in digital cameras, flash HD camcorders, and mini-DV camcorders on the large equipment drawers near the entrance to Circulation. Among the exciting topics covered are deleting images, checking for all pieces, and recharging!

Personal copies on Reserve

Faculty members who have placed personal copies of books and media on reserve will be coming to collect them over the next few weeks. We can easily and quickly remove an item from reserve — please refer these requests to Kellam, Nancy, or Dan.

Circ supervisors, if you would like a quick tutorial on how to do this, please let me know. Thanks, Kellam

Additional procedure for PC faculty/staff laptops

Hi all. A small addition to the procedure for checking out Dell PC laptops to faculty and staff. Remember how, with the faculty/staff Macbooks, we require patrons to log in using their own ID and password at the far-left part of the Circ Desk? Well, now we’re doing that for faculty/staff PCs as well. When you check out a Dell laptop to a faculty or staff member, please direct them to go to the far left part of the Circ Desk, plug into the Ethernet cable there, and log in the laptop using their own username and password. The purpose of this is for assured functionality so they can access personal files once they leave campus. If a problem occurs, refer them to a Circ Supervisor – we can troubleshoot, ask Helpdesk to step in, or exchange their faculty/staff laptop for another one. Students working in the evenings at the branches can call Main if a supervisor is needed. Thanks!
