On-the-fly items
There is a new (easier, fewer steps) way of doing on the fly items at circ. Please see instructions here.
Circ work comes first
I want to remind everyone that library work comes before personal work.
We’ve been getting a higher number of patrons claiming an overdue item was returned to the circulation desk, and not checked in. I’ve followed up on several of these e-mails (time I could be using for other tasks.) and indeed the item was in the reserve area and not checked in. Unfortunately, what this means is that personal work at the circulation desk is taking too much priority over circulation work. I want to remind everyone that library work comes before personal work. Secondly, I’m seeing too many reserves left sitting on the circulation desk and not checked in, this is a direct cause of improper check-in. Remember that all returns are to be checked in promptly, as this is your responsibility as a circulation assistant.

Copy Codes – ID numbers
A reminder that Steve Goodman is now the go-to person for inputting ID numbers/copy codes and monitoring copy cards.
All equipment back on-line
I’m happy to report that all the printers and compact shelving units have been repaired and are back to normal operating status. Printer 203k once again can have paper loaded in the bottom tray. As always keep Nancy and I informed of any problems with Armstrong equipment.
Stay Healthy!
Stay healthy!
Wash your hands frequently, use disinfectant wipes on the phone, keyboard, and mouse at the beginning of your shift, and use the Purell dispenser after handling library materials. Please consult with a Circ supervisor before coming to work if you are having flu like symptoms.
I came across this interesting faq recently:
Q. How long does the H1N1 Flu virus live outside of the body?
A. The virus can live outside the body on hard surfaces, such as stainless steel and plastic, for 24-48 hours and on soft surfaces, such as cloth, paper, and tissues for less than 8-12 hours; however, it can only infect a person for up to 2-8 hours after being deposited on hard surfaces, and for up to a few minutes after being deposited on soft surfaces.
Equipment belonging to Media Services
A reminder that Media Services often has equipment coming and going from the Circulation Desk. These are non-barcoded equipment items — usually equipment that the Circ Desk doesn’t own. There are Media Services pick-up and return shelves located in the equipment closet near Kellam’s desk. All Media Services items should live there, and should not be placed anywhere else (not on the holdshelf, or short-term holdshelf, or Info Desk, or Helpdesk, or the Wilson Media Lab). This equipment is expensive and in high-demand, and we want to make sure we put it in the correct place when returned. As always, please ask a supervisor if you have any questions. Thanks!
software issues in Armstrong lab
I found 2 separate issues with software in the Armstrong computer lab. I’ve reported both to the HelpDesk.
1) Internet Explorer – can’t download attachments in email messages or exported references from SciFinder Scholar.
2) SPSS – license has expired and won’t work.
