Highlights:
β€’ Busy mid-term activity
β€’ Oct break: In-service day – really FUN! 1 team circ team member helped organize, taught 8 people how to make oboe reeds, and played a duet with himself; another sang and played guitar at the open mike event; others participated in a wonderful variety of musical offerings πŸ™‚
β€’ Oct break: Reduced hours – a welcome time to catch our breath a little mid-term. Nice to have a break in the action during fall break – Monday’s LIS and retirement reception was nice, and fun.
β€’ Oct break: very busy last day of break (Tuesday) at Arms and Main
β€’ Presented at Dartmouth Library Conference
β€’ Staffing/schedules: Great team effort training and adjusting schedules and workflows – ongoing work in progress
β€’ Student employees: still finishing quizzes at Arms and Main;
β€’ LIS Website Team: Drupal Training; borrowing content in wiki; developing IA
β€’ CT Team – working on web stuff; using LIS blog to post activity
β€’ DA Team – nothing to report
β€’ Main: highlights: Continued heavy equipment requests, uptick in carrels given out (6 in the past week, which is rare this late in the semester), continued activity on microfilm readers for History class project; busy with Media borrowing during Fall Break — students did a great job keeping up with the pace on Friday and Sat at closing; assisting with processing books for library display; hold shelf overflowing with mid-semester activity
β€’ Summer: Mills post-mortem meeting/discussion – very few circ issues/problems noted; Banner load problems and a requesting issue – following up
β€’ Music: Music has been quiet lately; Purell dispenser installed
β€’ Armstrong: All printers and stacks are finally in good working order (shhhh!); busy week leading up to mid-terms; busy with requests processing; busy on Tuesday of break
β€’ Developing cash/credit procedures for Main/Armstrong; updating on Circ wiki
β€’ Stacks: Steady…
β€’ Billing and replacement of long unreturned materials
β€’ Equipment: Tutorial with Rich 10/7 re: equipment and room bookings; following up on lots of bookings and overdues — busy time for equipment borrowing

Challenges
β€’ Student employees: schedule confusion – reduced hours; not reading email and/or blog to stay informed; several students sick and giving up shifts; some student no-shows, leaving gaps in front desk coverage; hitting that time of year where illness and stress are taking a toll on student workers; need to keep a close eye on sub requests and open shifts
β€’ Main Library closed during big tour day (Columbus Day weekend); lots of tours coming through even though we were closed
β€’ Issues with front door access
β€’ Can we justify being open on Sat/Sun of Oct break? Very little activity noted – except for DVD borrowing at closing on Fri and Sat
β€’ Early closing/reduced hours – busy with media materials borrowing at/near closing
β€’ Reports from a few students that carrel/locker issues reported to Facilities in September have not yet been fixed
β€’ Reserves – next steps to ensure support to faculty and students?
