Workgroups(s); Circulation Services – Circulation, Reserves and Stacks

Highlights:

  • General activity levels: busy evenings, lots of users, lots of questions; increase in evening Ref questions at Circ; increase in evening community guest usage; increase in renewal requests for ILL and NExpress; many campus tours coming through the library; Weekend activity: moderately busy both nights, more so on Sat until 8:00pm. Steady flow of returns. IUG Conference: Dan away
  • Student staffing and schedules – Start of scheduling for finals; working on Fall schedules next week
  • Circ staffing – schedule flexing and stretching to cover vacations and time off; Armstrong will extend exam hours on Friday May 14th until midnight and Saturday May 15th until 10 pm.
  • Main: Fri night: completed a sweep of all three floors and printer rooms; printer rooms on the 1st and 2nd floor on Sat.
  • Reserves – continuing to process S10 reserves as well as LS and BL reserves; working with Ref department re: online access to journals; working with Lib Acq re: summer requests
  • Armstrong – Wednesday – busy day with plotter issues as this was the deadline for the symposium posters.  Some confusion re: how to print.   Friday very busy with Symposium at Armstrong; library busy all day.  Overall the day went smooth, with only a little bit of confusion re: where to pick up remotes and adaptors
  • Loaner equipment – increase in equipment usage (especially camcorders, LCD projectors, dongles, and calculators)
  • Digital Archives Team – report from Danielle on NEA digitization
  • Working on LS handbook

Challenges

  • Last-minute Reserves and screenings requests
  • Missing reserve item needed urgently by students; searched everywhere with no luck
  • Staffing stretched thin with multiple staff away
  • Malfunctioning set of outside front doors
  • Lower level moveable stacks still broken
  • Student computer at Circ Desk died; HD is working on it
  • ILL numbers peaked at Armstrong, keeping us busy at the start of the week
  • A few issues with students arriving late for their shifts
  • Confusion re: who schedules LIB240A & 240B: go/scheduling or LIS/CTLR?
