Workgroups(s); Circulation Services – Circulation, Reserves and Stacks

Highlights:

  • General activity levels – bustling at Main and Arms; steady user activity in evenings; fairly quiet Sunday, Mon & Tues morning
  • Student staffing and schedules – Dan: Working on summer scheduling; all but 3 students have signed contract for the summer; Todd: finished summer interviewing and working on contracts
  • Circ staffing – schedule flexing and stretching to cover vacations and time off
  • Circ phone tree
  • Reserves – BLNM/VT processing; met with Christie Tam from Monterey to discuss Reserves, copyright issues, and general borrowing policies
  • Armstrong – tons of ILL, Nexpress, rapid requests to process; finally sent out a bindery shipment from Armstrong
  • Loaner equipment – missing/broken locker key replacement project, working with Shel and Bryan using Circ Equipment to support Student Symposium, heavy faculty/staff laptop activity
  • Digital Archives Team – Jess Isler joined the meeting this week to report on her internship in Special Collections and metadata creation
  • Curricular Technology Team – survey rolling out this week (fingers crossed)
  • Web Team – Usability, surveys and analytics
  • Hiring activity – all Circ positions posted; initial planning meetings scheduled; hiring committees in process of being formed
  • RSS workshop planned for 4/28
  • ILL/Circ meeting to discuss staffing support and schedules
  • Revised hours guidelines; proposal to change summer hours
  • Improved web booking and requesting text in MIDCAT (for reserve, book, and hold notifications)
  • New hours table in the wiki
  • Explored adding LIB242 to available printers for students at the circ desk – don’t think it is possible
  • Starting to at least think about BL scheduling
  • Circ is assisting Special Coll with items needed for Fac/staff author reception

Challenges

  • Billing for lost materials – peak in request to replace with purchased copy (lower cost than default value)
  • Room scheduling confusion
  • Multiple staff taking days off simultaneously
  • Busy and understaffed on Tuesday
  • 2-hour gap in student coverage Monday morning (illness)
  • Missing reserve screening DVD for Tues evening screening
