Stats:
Carrel Monday 9/14/09: Out of 202 carrels, distributed 95 by 8:35 am; 113 by 8:50 am; 123 carrel keys by 8:58 am; 147 by 12:24 pm; 159 by 5 pm – busy day!

Highlights:
• Carrel Monday – many helpers and good planning made for a smooth process
• Stats – gathering Oberlin stats; learning new system for extracting Zoho stats
• Adjusting to change in Info Desk staffing – impact on Circ with room reservations and guest stuff; lots of referring and troubleshooting
• Weekend: steady activity; middle-schoolers in Lib with noisy skates on; HD referrals after hours; training new students; students covering for each other due to illness; FMP stuff in evenings; lots of CD requests faxed to Music
• More Reserves, reserves, reserves…
• Maura’s last week 
• Updating borrower and borrowing documentation
• Main Circ desk activity – increase room reservations; guest password; referrals; misc support – info desk type stuff
• Student employees – hiring, scheduling, training in circ/res/stacks; Music – trained 4 new students (including one group training);small gap in schedule still; Main – schedule fully settled with minimal shifting; Arms – group training meeting scheduled for this week; developing working on student training quiz for all Circ
• Thesis carrel Monday – carrel assigned by the end of the 1st day
• Borrower data base – guests, visitors, college courtesy cards, class auditors; local educators – reviewing eligibility criteria and standards; cleaning up old patron messages
• Staffing: planning for fall schedules; staff schedule changes/discussions/meetings; new work schedules in effect; training on new responsibilities; procedure refreshers
• Workflows: task lists – eliminating, reviewing, reducing, coordinating changes…
• Eliminating retrieval for on-campus users – setting system parameters; advertising the change; exploring all of the repercussions of turning off web requesting on available status; posting signage
• LIS Website Team: met with T from WW; working with contacts for LIS content; developing the one-blog
• Curricular Technology: contacting Wellesley for info on First Class (software that runs Breadnet)
• Main: incredibly busy week; all aspects of Circ in moderate to high demand: circs, reserves, paging slips, equipment, laptops, screenings, copy/print questions, database questions, carrels, lockers, searching, guest borrower applications, VCAL, etc.
• Music: schedule gap covered by Circ sub; lots of ILLs; reserve lists still arriving; Sun opening at 1 pm
• Armstrong: Busy week in Armstrong; reserves still coming in; requests steady; new desktop Zoho web stats now in use; lots of printing going on – but lots of paper being saved; a few Armstrong carrels have been assigned; because of the problem with the Main plotter, the Armstrong plotter is seeing more use than usual for this early in the term; ILL activity picking up;
• Armstrong: support to Clifford Symposium – temporarily switched out the “New Books” display for a display on books on evolution; next week we’ll display a looping video provided by Andrea Olson
• Stacks: picking up opening routine at Main M-Th; stacks student employees also scheduled at opening at Circ desk
• Loaner Equipment: lots of early semester bookings; otherwise lots of routine maintenance (between processing reserve); responsible borrowing discussions, follow-up, clearing blocks
• Reserves: Second week of term, 139 ERes course pages created (and still creating new courses…); past 2 semesters have topped at 143 course pages; reserve book shelves are very full too – over 1800 media items and books on reserve at Main, more arriving every day…
• Circ web pages; circ blog – prep for migration to LIS blog; reviewing tags and categories; beginning to move user borrowing documentation to wiki from CMS
Challenges
• Busy, busy, busy!
• Suggestion/feedback to not have carrel assignments at 7:30 am on a Monday
• Printer problems at Arms – caused by the print jobs coming through as A4’s
• Self-check still on the blink – may need a new de-sensitizer 
• Staff scheduling
• Documenting non-circ type activity at circ desks
• Keep from crying – Maura leaving 
