User Services Weekly Report
Date: 5 August 2009

Name: Elin Waagen
Workgroups(s); Circulation Services – Circulation, Reserves and Stacks

Stats:
ILL for July 09. Armstrong had 147 requests, of which 141 were filled (95.92%). This is up from last year when we had 102. Rapids for July = 17

Highlights:
• Staffing: schedules, schedules, schedules…
• Workflows: Circ staff training and covering at Main
• Annual circ report/stats submitted
• BLSE: end of term flood of books back to Main in bins; reserve breakdown on Friday
• BLWC: set up conference schedule; prep for conference
• LS: Peak in end of term borrowing, returns and library use activity
• Student employees: FY10 budget request submitted; Armstrong – recruited all four summer students to stay on for fall term; entered all shifts including new shifts into Outlook.
• Main: busy nights at the library, both at the desk and generally in the building – it definitely feels like the end of the semester; heavy equipment use; many returns from LS and BLSE; myself and Public Safety needing to ask students to leave most nights after closing
• Music: Finishing up student summer projects; summer vacation
• Collecting User Services projects for project directory
• Web team – identifying primary contacts; recommendations
• Armstrong: With Main’s plotter down, lots of plotter questions, and printing for the symposium poster session on July 31; nearing the end of the map projects – excellent effort and initiative by the student staff in accomplishing the map project; requests slowing down
• Stacks: returns starting to peak; re-shelving areas filling up; dusting continues; re-writing student employee JD
• Loaner Equipment: loan periods and guidelines = good inventory/meeting needs of requests
• Reserves: Fall faculty arriving on campus; fall reserve materials arriving; breakdown for BLSE; set-up for BLWC
• Weekend: Very busy in Main Library; printers were getting heavy use with the two printers on the Main floor being out of commission

Challenges
• Student staff illnesses left gaps in weekend and evening schedule at Main and Armstrong
• Momentary power outage blip on Monday night
• LS guest lecturer/visitor – misinformed by LS re media borrowing privileges
• Main level moving shelves are quite finicky–sometimes moving; sometimes not. Also, sometimes resetting and sometimes not
