Student training
Main – changing orientation/training sequence – focus on core competencies initially…
Highlights:
• Some staff taking vacation time this week
• Student employees: Main – a student just withdrew his agreement to work at Main Circ this summer; will need to find someone else to fill 2 summer sections with 3 days to go until contracts are due; Fall position is posted and applications are coming in, followed by setting up interviews. Sub requests galore across all Circ desks
• Main: Very fun Easter egg hunt – thanks to all who contributed and hid the eggs –student employees absolutely appreciated this event; heavy use of the library this past week with most people looking for place to study/write
• Armstrong: many requests to fill/process (ILL, NExpress, Rapid, Web); Friday student spring symposium; student hiring completed
• Music:
• Stacks:
• Reserves: High levels of reserves going in and out (and going overdue); Nancy and Joanne attended Eres webinar sponsored by Docutek
• Equipment: follow-up on overdues, lost and stolen equipment; finalizing common user agreement for all equipment borrowing; reviewing booking maintenance functions to improve record keeping; negotiating F/S laptop requests for extended loans; planning equipment meeting for summer needs; heavy equipment use
• Meetings/workshops: Eres webinar
• Mills conference call
• LS handbook updates/edits
• Print release meetings
• Planning for 24/7; summer hours
• Borrower data base – wiki documentation for entering/editing borrowers; processed guest applications
• Web pages – updated guest borrowing documentation; VCAL info
• Billing – transfers to college bill and credits; lost/stolen equipment and books/DVD’s; returned CD’s

Challenges
• Conference phones in repair
• Willful, senseless and deliberate damage to a carrel cupboard door to steal a $5 Ethernet cable
• Film screening oversight responsibilities
• break-in at thesis carrel (apparently for an Ethernet cable), many thesis students on deadline and stressed
• Poster printing problems at ARMS
• ARMS 161 lab printer still has duplexer problem
• Student hiring challenges
