Film Screening Media

A reminder!
Media scheduled for the day’s classroom film screening will be placed on a separate shelf after processing
On the day of the screening, media in this area may not be borrowed for individual viewing prior to the class screening
This affects only media scheduled for the day’s screening
This does NOT affect other media on reserve – regular loan policies apply
Media will be made available for individual viewing as soon as possible after the scheduled screening

Please pass on comments, concerns and observations – and your thoughts as students and as Circ staff.

Please feel free to post your comments on the blog.
I have also added a page to the screening notebook for your comments.

Refer any borrower concerns, questions or problems to a supervisor.

Thanks!
Elin

Film Screening Media

In an effort to ensure that media scheduled for a film screening is in the best possible condition, we have changed our procedures for processing film screening media.

All media scheduled for the day’s screening will be placed on a separate shelf after processing.
I have designated a shelf for this purpose next to the reserve media shelf.
Also – I have designated a new area for the rental films next to the new screening media shelf.

Media will not be available for individual viewing prior to a scheduled class screening.
Media will be available for viewing as soon as possible after the scheduled screening is over.

Please note that we are trying this for the Winter Term, and will evaluate the film screening workflow for Spring Term. Please pass on comments, concerns and observations.

Thanks!
Elin

Reserves and Media Collection Shelf Reading!

A new clipboard (how exciting!) has been created at Main with a breakdown of assignments for shelf-reading the book reserves, media reserves, and media collection. It’s being kept where all the other clipboards are kept (how enterprising!)

Supervisors are welcome to start assigning section to students on shift. You can go in order or hop around to especially troubled sections. Have the students add the date and their initials when they’ve finished a section. Any questions, just ask. Thanks, everyone!

Review workflow for screening media – meeting notes 9/26

Review workflow for screening media
Meeting Notes
Fri 9/26 1 – 2 pm Lib 145
Present: Patty, Stewart, Maura, Joanne, Joseph W, Kellam
Very much missed: Adam and Steve
Notes: Elin – feel free to edit and comment!

Background:
Current procedure:
Film screening students check condition, scan and clean DVD’s immediately prior to screenings.
Stewart raised the question of what to do if problems are discovered outside of P&P hours.
This raised the need to revisit the overall procedure – and review how we can improve efficiencies and ensure good quality condition of screening media.
How can we ensure that screeners bring quality media to scheduled screenings?
Should we increase number of staff – especially during evenings and weekends – who can clean media if needed?
What is the procedure for media that needs rush repair on the weekends?

Blu-Ray Format

Blu-Ray discs – new to the Media Collection at Main
Handle with care! They are very fragile! And very difficult to repair!
Can only be played on a blu-ray player, NOT a DVD player
Currently, we have no blu-ray player in Main; there is a player in Axinn
Currently there is no way for staff or students to view in-library
Faculty may borrow for viewing outside the library
Shelve blu-ray discs as usual with the regular DVDs and VHS tapes in the Media Collection
Each disc has a message in its record identifying it as a blu-ray disc
Cases are slightly shorter than regular DVD cases, and colored blue
