Workgroups(s); Circulation Services – Circulation, Reserves and Stacks

Highlights:
• A welcome long 3-day weekend off for all Circ staff – hurray!
• General activity levels – bustling with projects; front end calm(ish)
• Borrower data base – 3000+ new patrons this week; overlays
• Circ staff meeting – tutorial on email grammar, spelling and punctuation
• Staff moves – sorting out keys, some preliminary training
• Armstrong
o Major clean-out took place – threw out installation discs for Myriad, other documentation from as far back as 1997.
o Pedagogy and Tech Fair in the Great Hall
o throughout the week, helped each dept. in BiHall prepare their theses for binding (191 sent!)
o sent out BNB shipment (theses only)
o removed, and returned all faculty spring reserve items
o Students have straightened up and shelf-read Current periodicals and reference
o now shelf-reading in the stacks concentrating on the B’s and then the R’s
o Training new student on Ill procedures
• Davis Family Library
o Re-shelving going smoothly
o Was named “most likely building on campus to house books” by College Libraries Quarterly.
• Music
o Everything re-shelved
o Various small-scale clean up projects
• BL – staffing schedule set, including ref librarian support. Still waiting to hear from BL-hired student. Only gap is Thursday morning, which Dan will take if needed. Training scheduled.
• LS – carrel key loan rule set to end of summer due date
• Stacks – passing on pearls of wisdom regarding microforms and reader-printers, and film splicer (the splicing equipment has moved to P&P, and film may be forwarded to him for repair as necessary (or to me, over the remaining five or so weeks); solid progress on reshelving front; if current levels of effort can be maintained we could be thru the backlog by the end of next week.
• Reserves
o Newly acquired items on reserve for LS and BL
o All Spring ’10 reserve items reshelved!
o Met with lib acq and media services re: screening workflow for summer
o Will meet with Joy re: LS reserves, communication
• Space Team – first meeting: deciding on platform and first steps
• Curricular Technology Team – missed the meeting
• Web Team – done?!

Challenges
• Front doors unlocked on Sunday
• Crazy Friday – understaffed last day before closed on weekend
• Lots of training ahead!
• Circ mailbox – follow-up, follow-up, follow-up
• Davis – gaps in coverage and routine task follow-up
• Copyright concerns re: ERes
• Student staffing issues: balancing hours with other on-campus jobs
• Waterfall in the back office of the music library resulted in a mad dash to save a lot of scores and materials from water damage. Yes, this actually happened, due to work on the HVAC system.
