Workgroups(s); Circulation Services – Circulation, Reserves and Stacks

Highlights:
• General activity levels – busy, busy, busy (did I say busy?) at Circ, both with Circ activity and book check-ins; deluge of returns
• Cookie night appreciated and enjoyed by many thankful – and amazedthatLISwoulddothis – students
• 24/7 and exam hours – finished smoothly; excellent overnight student staff
• Staff re-locations/office moves/planning
• Yellow cables – end of trial period
• Working on User Services and Circ goals
• Student staffing and schedules – lots of tired, hard-working students; challenge to staff all shifts at all locations; new student training for summer; break schedules; summer student schedule; new Outlook calendar for all summer students at all branches; Senior lunch and LIS T-shirts (thanks, Mary!)
• Circ staffing –stretched thin covering student shift gaps; tweaking break schedules; lots of filling in gaps with subs, both student and staff; shifting and stretching (shritching?)
• Hiring – interviews for Circ staff positions
• Documentation – guest borrowing; vcal
• LD’s to Spec Coll storage; retrieval procedure in place; shift will happen in June
• Armstrong – summer project planning; clean-up from Spring semester and academic year
• Davis Family Library – Busy Sunday and weekend activity; printers, paper supply etc. all held out well over weekend
• BL – desk staffing schedule; planning meeting
• Carrel and locker keys – starting to come back; end-of-term inventory and clean-out
• Music – end of term activity
• Stacks –tsunami of book returns; all hands on deck needed to re-shelve
• Reserves –end of term business
• Equipment –summer requests; loans slowing; busy with returns, charging equipment and checking parts; following up on missing parts
• Curricular Technology Team – almost ready to make recommendations to the AD’s
• Digital Archives Team – meeting with sponsor, piecing together final report
• Web Team – recommendations based on testing; scheduled to meet with AD’s; tweaks to web site based on testing
• Planning for staff art exhibit

Challenges
• Printing on behalf of faculty; departmental and research grants etc. with papercut/quota policy
• Unfilled schedule slots; very few staff on Monday and Friday; illness, cto, stretched as far as we can reach all open hours/locations
• Students on Davis roof on Sat night
• In-use materials everywhere (purposely limit sweeps during finals)
• Copy card dispenser
• End of term issues with replacement billing – lost, damaged, stolen library materials
• Guest borrower requests – expectations for courtesy borrowing
• New web site – users used to familiar patterns of finding
