Circ meeting minutes: Wed 3/10

Present: Elin, Steve, Dan, Rachel, Morgan, and Kellam

Please go to Outlook and updates schedules for spring and summer. Spring break (and reduced hours) is right around the corner. Please put any changes in yellow, and reach out to others to help fill the gaps.

ILL is working with Illiad 8

Yay for Steve and Kellam’s promotions!

Project list for spring break – checklist on wiki – please review it and share responsibility for taking care of tasks

Conference money is available now! Here are some possibilities to get you started on planning a conference trip or webinar: ALA, ACRL, VLA, NELA, Simmons, St. Michael’s, NERCOMP, and Webjunction

Dan is signed up for IUG conference, and has promised us all some choice swag from the Windy City

Rachel and Morgan will be in Virginia for an Illiad conference over Spring Break

Circ goals: We all like them a lot – thanks to those who worked hard on them. Elin will forward to Mary; if OK, we’ll use them to build our individual goals

Hourly gate stats: starting Fri 3/19 until Fri 3/26 at 8:00pm. Have students take gate count every hour. Very important and will help us determine library usage and hours.

Effective immediately, student workers are not allowed to print personal documents behind the Circ Desk. The Circ Desk printer is for work-related printing only. Supervisors, please help to consistently enforce this policy.

White Whale has developed five different themes that we could use for the Circ blog. Stay tuned.

Dan clarified what it means to de/reactivate printers per an updated printer workflow when Helpdesk isn’t staffed. Also, remember to refer users to go/printing with questions.

Discussion re: Mozio. Question from Brenda: can Circ monitor Mozio activity between Thus after 5:00pm until Sun at 1:00pm? Sounds like this service is infrequently used. Is it then vital to have Circ staff monitor the activity? The messages could be sent to the Circ mailbox; we would need to ignore the messages received on the days when Ref is staffed.

Room reservations: go/scheduling. If a user sees a “contact LIS to schedule room” message for a given room, please refer to Doreen.

Screenings: still our policy to not circulate screening materials on the day of screening. Still the best way to ensure that media is accounted for and in good condition prior to a screening. Please continue to inspect and clean all DVDs. Recent issue with a heavily scratched disc being sent to a screening.

Overdues: a gap in documentation re: the steps that are taken (both automated and manual) when an overdue occurs. What triggers a billed status, a manual block, etc., and how is this different for different patron types. Todd and Elin will work on this. Dan has investigated a “point” system for overdues — automated in Mill — a possibility if we’re interested.

We are all excited about eliminating the paper agreements for equipment borrowing. The handbook needs to be updated online before this can happen.

Steve is doing equipment weeding. He reports that PC-formatted hard drives are continuing to have issues with being reformatted. New D630 Dells for Fac/staff are on the way.

All locker keys are checked out

Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday! Remind your students, especially the Sunday openers.

Please get your weekly reports to Elin by Tues at 5:00pm SHARP! She needs to get her report to Mary earlier now.

Dan’s initiative to have our student and staff calendars moved to Google has been tabled for the time being

Dan will update the Circ contact list with cell phone numbers for everyone; will work on a phone tree for emergencies. The recent snow storm and power outage showed us where some gaps are re: contact info

The Helpdesk is having a team fun day on Fri 3/26. Circ should have a fun day as well! Let’s have lunch together with sandwiches, chips, Cokes, and cookies. Mary will pay. 🙂

Elin has an iPhone app of a kitty that meows and purrrs.
