Workgroups(s); Circulation Services – Circulation, Reserves and Stacks
Highlights:
• Winter Term – general user activity – busy in spurts circ and reserves, but fewer users in libraries; 2nd week smoother
• Main Weekends – it seemed much busier than ‘usual’ for J-term this past weekend; building “sweeps”
• Staff – Circ staff from all branches covering at Main; student management activity busy at Arms and Main
• Student staffing – scheduling issues; changes to class schedules, demands and expectations creating work schedule conflicts; helpful and collaborative – covering shifts for each other at all three circ desks; calming down a little ; developing spring schedules; hiring and training 4 new assistants at Arms; edited student performance expectations on wiki; updated student directories
• Searching – partial success; re-running monthly lists after re-shelving mostly completed
• Shelf reading – Browsing DVDs and WT reserves
• New books display
• Music
• Main – quiet Sunday;
• Reserves – hurray – KA is back! WT activity at lower ebb, Spring activity picking up as faculty prepare for the start of classes
• Curricular Technology Team – finishing website
• DAT – finalizing proposal for permanent Digitization Committee & Center, prepping for meeting with ADs
• Website team – new Basecamp PM tool in full swing; building to meet 2/5 deadline
• Borrowing site – new profiles sub-pages, wiki documentation
• New Circ workgroup page on LIS Wiki – merging staff info into new Dept page and user info on Borrowing page
• Self-booking testing, tweaking, developing workflows – media on reserves, equipment, thesis carrels
• Added thesis carrel map to carrel key bib record in anticipation of carrel key booking in Spring
• ILL, NExpress, Rapid requests steady at Arms
• Winter Term Carrel Monday day – 7 carrels issued
• Stacks – continuing re-shelving; slow progress but getting there with help from on-call staff
• Loaner Equipment – Dec. stats; following up on equipment overdues; yearly State of the Equipment meeting
• New film screening procedures/workflow for Spring ‘10
• Had to re-do Zoho links on Circ desktops
• Updated software on Main front desk computers – thaw/update/re-freeze
• Borrower data base – WT records, coding for new thesis ptype
• Library hours – Feb break, Winter Carnival and editing general guidelines
Challenges
• Fewer staff to process WT and SP reserves
• 2 printers down Sunday before J-term with no Helpdesk available
• Room reservations
• Weekend newspapers
• Personal reserve copies from Fall 09 still waiting to be picked up (eliminated service of packing and shipping them back at the end of the term)
