User Services Weekly Report

Workgroups(s); Circulation Services – Circulation, Reserves and Stacks
Highlights:
• Fall term is here! Nice to have the academic year students back!
• Reserves, reserves, reserves…
• Preparing for Circ staff member retirement
• Student employee scheduling, student employee scheduling, student employee scheduling…
• Borrower activity – returns of lost, billed, long-overdue, checked-out over the summer; resolving many borrower blocks
• Guest borrowers and borrower database – print questions, guest privileges – auditing, VCAL, community, courtesy educators; faculty dependents; college courtesy cards
• New (non-circ type activity) stats system – Zoho Creator
• Circ desk staffing: planning for fall schedules; staff schedule changes/discussions
• Workflows: task lists – eliminating, reviewing, reducing…
• Eliminating retrieval for on-campus users – setting system parameters; advertising the change; exploring all of the repercussions of turning off web requesting on available status
• Student employees: hiring, interviewing, scheduling, training at all Circ points and Stacks
• Thesis Carrels: Preparations for Carrel Monday – would love to automate this process!
• Teams: Digital Archives Team, LIS Website Team, Curricular Technology meeting weekly
• Main: First couple days of classes have been very busy, lots of “how to” activity; evening before classes began was very quiet
• Music: back to packing ILL’s
• Armstrong: Lots of directional and “how-to” activity; support with printing and print release; reserves steady; ILL also steady; many web requests; several library instruction classes scheduled in the lab; lots of requests for LCD projectors
• Shiny new printer status board w/dots in place at Arms
• Stacks: small flood of returns from academic year students – materials out or overdue over the summer
• Loaner Equipment: taking a back seat to Reserve processing
• Reserves: Busy, busy, busy… ILL/Reserve students anxious to get right to work ; non-stop Reserves support
• Revising process/forms for MS Office software access
• Updated content on (current CMS) borrowing web pages; reviewing content for new site
• LIS eNews submissions
• Eliminated credit card machines at Arms and Music
Challenges
• Full hours on Sunday prior to term – extremely quiet; from 10 -11pm the gate count was 18; from 11-midnight it was 11; from midnight -1am it was 6; after 1am, two students plus a community member left the building, not counting 2 staff
• Self-check on the blink – may need a new de-sensitizer 
• Staff scheduling
• Lots of troubleshooting and directing to printers and copiers
• ILL computer down at Arms – delayed processing requests
• PDF’s not printing at Arms
• Main Lib lights turning off 3 minutes before closing
