Workgroups(s); Circulation Services – Circulation, Reserves and Stacks

Highlights:
• LS in session – low activity
• Circ Customer Service training session scheduled for 6/24
• Mill Circ: notices subject line text; updating Offline Circ mode documentation and SSH client set-up
• Borrower data base: adjusting load parameters and records to facilitate summer borrowing and requesting on and off campus
• Student employees: Distribution lists, schedules, contact info, training at all desks. Music: training new student; figuring out scheduling for summer students. Main: refresher training for new Circ summer students; summer ice cream socials for Main circ/ill/reserve/stacks student workers. Armstrong: taking advantage of slower desk activity to train new summer student employees
• BLSE: Davison Circ/Res set-up planned for Mon 6/22; finalizing Davison Library manual, procedures, workflow, wiki documentation, and schedule; testing workflow; training; Mill Circ adjustments for Davison log-in; customized hold slips
• Reviewing loan rules/parameters to test non-circ loan rules
• Info desk scheduling
• Stacks: staff vacation but popped in for part of the User Services Mission/Main Things/Values Development
• Main: ; full hours and full student staff schedule but low activity at front desk; chipping away at projects for ill/reserves/stacks and circ; searching lists completed, shelf-reading project continuing; hours signage
• Carrel and locker inventory/cleaning/preparations complete; carrel suites for LS
• Taking care of temporary building signage in absence of LIS facility coordinator
• Connected with film screening supervisor re summer film screening workflow
• Armstrong: new photocopiers; print release rolling smoothly; 1 Armstrong staff member participated in the User Services Mission/Main Things/Values Development meeting
• Borrower data base: adjusting and testing for summer borrowing
• Reserves: preparing for BLSE and BLWC; participated in the User Services Mission/Main Things/Values Development meeting; participated in the EXH!BITED: lis staff arts and crafts exhibit; adding the last stragglers of BL books and ERes materials; boxing books, and making preparation for Monday on the mountain; adjusting workflow (due to staff retirement) to cover rush orders for BLVT and BLSE with Collections Management area; reviewing checklists and documentation for future planning and current workflow
• Equipment: Seven new Hebrew keyboards added to the equipment pool; posted (on the blog) a list of Media Services equipment loaned to the LS programs for the entire session; loan rules for equipment set to accommodate/balance requests and inventory; translating user agreements for LS
• Team training meetings
• Self-check is happy and in use by LS 
• Scheduling for staff vacations etc. – great team work
• Blogging like crazy to post updates, reminders, changes to workflow for summer
• Summer hours posted on web
Challenges
• BL scheduling – stretching work schedules and accommodating requests; impossible to staff all hours that the Davison Library is open with current staffing model
• Very few Circ staff participated in the User Services Mission/Main Things/Values Development meeting
• UPS shipping software still not working properly – ILL shipping
• Troubleshooting non-circ media out on ILL – needed by Midd faculty
• Millennium issues – system slows, locks records during regularly scheduled file loads
• Lots of billing issues – tracking down long overdue/lost/missing/damaged materials
• Minor problem with front doors not on the correct closing schedule
• Minor problem with desk stats module not loading correctly
• Requests for longer loan periods for equipment by LS cannot be accommodated by current inventory
• Armstrong summer student employee leaving 2 weeks earlier than contracted
• Low level of activity 1st weekend of 9-week – low numbers in library, though space was utilized for training and testing
• Borrower data base: non-Midd student research assistants not issued Midd ID’s
