Progress on Goals
Goal: Design and develop borrower services and staff efficiencies in concert with other LIS work areas to support the college strategic directions
• Per the suggestions of CFA faculty and staff, we have added USB mics and Fac/staff laptops (1 Macbook and 1 Dell) to the Music Library loaner equipment pool
Highlights:
• Collaborated on customer Service training with HR, HD, Media Lab and Circ/Res for student employees; planning for Circ training in June
• Intersession projects: re-shelving; reserves prep and clean-up; searching, cleaning, etc.; getting much accomplished while keeping student employees busy and occupied; follow-up on borrowing issues
• A very calm commencement weekend in the library; plenty of visitors in the library; staffing on graduation weekend – Sat support at Info very useful – lots of visitors; Sunday was unexpectedly quieter than previous years
• End of academic year and graduation – bookdrops in heavy use during closed hours
• Met with Help Desk/Acquisitions/Liaison re media screening requests, new orders and reserve lists for the LS
• Staff vacations; staff covering planned and short notice, short and long periods – for each other at all branches
• Web requesting changes/enhancements
• Developing workflow for Mills requesting
• Reviewing NExpress workflow – DVD requests, returns, upcoming ILL absence
• Carrel and locker clean-out
• Borrower data base updates, clean-up
• BLSE and LS – planning and prep
• Carrels and Lockers: end of term clean-up; clearing, follow-up on keys
• Equipment: Participated in HD student training on Friday: presented on loaner equipment pool
• Student Employees: training new student staff; Main – student summer employees working well together;
• Armstrong: shelving end of term returns; reserves shelves cleared,
• Stacks: keeping our heads above water with LOTS of help from Main Circ Desk student staff – great teamwork
• Updating Circ and Reserve wiki pages
• Changed DVDs that were on reserve to new item type
• Deleted reserve items from Millennium and returned all materials to faculty
• End of term library materials billing
• Planning for LIS art and Crafts exhibit June 8
• ERP party committee
Challenges
• A lot of equipment still checked out and overdue, especially iPods and camcorders (flash HD); some equipment returned in damaged condition
• Materials not returned to Circ Desk from thesis carrels
• Personal belongings left in libraries – MAJOR pile of lost and found
• Overdue and lost materials; damaged materials requiring extensive follow-up
• Main – summer schedule – student needs to leave one week earlier than planned; lots of schedule juggling; coordinating PT student schedules with other LIS dept
• Events in library before/after hours (9 – 5 during intersession)
