User Services Leader Weekly Report
Date: 25 March 2008
Name: Elin Waagen – Workgroups: Circulation, Stacks, Reserves

Progress on Goals:

Develop regular schedule and content for student training;
• Successful training session with new students. 100% participation from Arm and Main plus guest appearances from many supervisors. Feedback from students was positive

Highlights:
• PFDP’s completed – congratulations to all on a job well done!
• End of last week at Main – busy evenings with midterms, heavy reserves & equipment use, most laptops coming back after closing every night, just prior to spring break
• Spring Break – hurray!
• Reduced library hours
• Some staff taking time off this week – thanks to staff holding down the Circ fort!
• Music gets the award for the fewest printing problems ever! Symquest came to fix our groaning, aging printer- possibly the second time in 8 years (is it possible we have had the same printer for 8 years!??!)
• Music – Repairs to the college’s English horn
• Various clean-up interim projects underway
• Armstrong: ILL’s etc.
• Stacks: on vacation
• A number of visitors to the library on Saturday of break (?)
• Equipment: Met to brainstorm ideas for Macbook laptops re: pushing out new log-in instructions (tags on case, info pasted directly on laptop); a work in progress; the two conferences phones that we loan have 267 lifetime checkouts — thoughts of adding another phone to the pool; exploring self-booking options through MIDCAT
• Reserves: Shifted work schedule to help cover closing; working on BL reserve requests to get new orders placed so books will be ready when needed
• Student employees: Main – all shifts for spring break are filled, not always the case in past years; Music – summer interviewing;

Challenges
• Armstrong Macbooks with registrations that have expired; resolving issues
• Summer hiring – notification about LS financial aid and internships do not coincide with college hiring contract and housing deadlines
• Several copiers/printers off line this week (than goodness it’s spring break!)
• Armstrong – lots of schedule gaps created by student staff leaving early for spring break
• Student org trying to sell coffee in lobby without permission
