User Services Leader Weekly Report

Name: Elin Waagen – Workgroups: Circulation, Stacks, Reserves
Stats: Monthly stats for January to follow next week.

Progress on Goals:
Goal: Develop reliable and accurate measurements at circulation service points to document activity and quality of services.
• Put in place a procedure for counting in-library use

Goal: Develop workflow policies/processes and standards for removing personal data from loaner equipment.
• Laptop and FW drive applications for wiping user data; new images for FS mac laptops

Highlights:
• Feb break! Reduced library hours. Busy!
• Project ongoing at all branches – shelf reading; shelving; weeding; searching; borrower data base; stats and reports, preparing reserve materials, inventory, web page updates, documentation updates etc.
• Bin delivery – tracking sheets reflect next day bin delivery – hurray!
• Supplies – working on possible solutions for providing requested supplies in the Main Library
• Reviewing web recall policies
• Equipment: new FS laptops; new image; application for wiping user data between loans; new user documentation and agreements; staff training on new procedures for FS laptops and FW drives; a 4th VGA adapter added to loaner collection
• Equipment – regular semester meeting to plan for multimedia teaching/leaning needs
• MIDD/MIIS teleconference on Eres
• Midd@Mills meeting
• Reserves: MIIS collaboration; Eres web seminar – Sirsi-Dynix; processing materials –Eres and traditional – for Spring Terms; clean-up from Winter Term
• Adding 130+ audio files to Eres @ Music
• Stacks: trying to shelve returns – holding areas overflowing; shifting project; NExpress/Midd retrievals activity up
• Workshops etc: Fifth Discipline book reading/discussion group; Horizon Report; Web Junction webinar on staff training; web re-design focus group; iTouch workshop
• New monthly schedule of Circ meetings in effect – low attendance at evening meeting – developed “what we do” list – productive brainstorming session
Challenges
• Staff illness and vacation
• Reduced student staff during break
• Change to use boxes instead of envelopes for CD’s slows down the ILL packing process
• Power outage last day of WT – services briefly impacted when busy at desk; connectivity not available at Armstrong until following Monday
• Leak and water damage to collections on upper level on Fri at 8 pm closing – and through the weekend
