Lost and Found

Each branch library has its own Lost and Found.
Lost and Found things that are not claimed should be sent to Public Safety at the end of every semester
Unclaimed personal books and media should be sent to Collections Management at the end of every semester
Unclaimed power adapters, computing equipment should be sent to the Helpdesk at the end of every semester
Every effort should be made to identify and notify the owner
Please alert a supervisor to valuable (jewelry, wallets, ID’s etc.) and electronic lost and found items (cell phones, flash drives, iPods etc.) so that they can try to identify and notify the owner
Midd ID’s – supervisors should email the card holder and if not claimed, forward to Public Safety
Items that may be valuable should be kept in a separate drawer that is locked at night
All other items are placed on the lost and found shelf or in the lost and found bin
Please check the lost and found regularly for library materials (things like library books, DVD’s and CD’s without cases, headphones and power adapters frequently end up there)
The lost and found is not a place to “find” a new sweater, hat or pair of gloves
Food and drink containers should be thrown out after 1 day to avoid spills and rodents

  1. Hi,
I feel that there are very few claims coming for the Pen drives since maybe the owners are not sure where they lost it.(could have misplaced them in their rooms etc.) Should we put an updated list of found items somewhere(on the Circ desk as a printed page, or to avoid false claims, we can have a poster saying [Claim your lost items here or something like that) so as to improve the number of claims.(this way we may be able to return more belongings(specially the academically important ones) to the students before they get forgotten about and land in PS or Recycle center.)

    Thanks
    Aman

  2. These are great ideas and really wonderful observations! Circ student employees are the eyes and ears of Circ – it is really great when you pass on observations and comments about what you are hearing and seeing at the front desk!
I will ask staff to consider your ideas carefully. Stay tuned!
    Thanks!
    Elin
