Need a Sub? Include details in email subject field

STUDENT STAFF SUBSTITUTION PROCEDURE – listed below and also on the Circ Departmental wiki here.
Thanks to you all for the good work you do, and for your attention to finding a sub when you are unable to be here as scheduled, and for jumping in to help others when needed. I have been especially impressed with the creativity of some of the offers and bribes – way to go team! πŸ™‚
A reminder to provide shift details in the email subject field when requesting a sub. Since some of you are scheduled at more than one branch, and have also subbed for each other at the other branches, please include the location of the shift (Main, Music or Armstrong) along with your name, and the specific date and time.

Need a sub? Communication is the key!
* Send an original email to the appropriate student assistant distribution list – do not tack your request on to an existing request
* Main Library: LIS – Main Lib Circ Student Assistants distribution list
* Music Library: LIS – Music Library Student Assistants distribution list
* Armstrong Library: LIS – Armstrong Library Student Assistants distribution list
* Music and Armstrong – copy regular branch staff
* Main – the Library Circulation mailbox gets copied automatically
* Type your name, the day, date & time and location (which branch library – Main, Music or Armstrong) of the sub shift in the subject field of the message
* “Reply all” when signing up for a shift – you are now responsible for the shift- and others are alerted that the shift is covered
* Confirm with a supervisor that the shift change has been recorded on the master Outlook calendar
Important! If all efforts to find a sub fail, you must speak directly with a supervisor to alert them to the problem and to work out a solution.

Circ Student of the Week – Thao Lam

eiffel twoer starsCongrats, Thao – and welcome back!
Thanks for jumping back into your job at the Main Circ Desk with your legendary enthusiasm, knowledge, attention to accuracy, helpfulness and friendliness. Really great to have you back. Thanks for all your good work – and thanks for bringing a touch of Paris back with you. πŸ™‚

Happy Spring to you all! Stop by Main Circ this weekend for an eggstra special treat!

Main Library – Microfilm Reader/Printers

A heads up that there are currently 30 students working on an assignment that requires the use of the microfilm reader. Please be prepared to assist users with navigating unfamiliar technology.
ILL staff and student staff are experts in using the film readers. They may also be able to help assist users unfamiliar with the readers.
Take a moment on your next shift to walk over to the film readers and follow directions to familiarize yourself with the equipment, so you can help others.
Please direct reader/printer problems to Stacks, or Helpdesk if unavailable.
There are also some tips on the wiki.

Spacesaver shelving units – out of order

out of orderThe problem with the Spacesaver movable compact shelving has been reported. In the meantime, please assist users who need access to the bound periodicals on the lower level.
Go with the user to the shelves and bring the Spacesaver Power Override with you.
Take care when using the Power Override – as all safety functions are disabled when using the Power Override.
Only one shelf can be moved at a time, and shelves move very s-l-o-w-l-y.
The Power Override (formerly kept at the Info Desk) is now kept at the Main Circ Desk under the counter, next to the credit card machine, to the left of the emergency manual.
Replacement batteries are available next to the Power Override – you’ll need a philips head screwdriver to replace the battery.
PS – for supervisors only – there is a Spacesaver safety override key in the Circ Office – though Rich reports that it does not always work.

Tell us what you think!

Hello,
We – the LIS Website Team – are asking for your help in assessing our new web presence. Before the makeover, some of you completed a survey about the old LIS website, which was very helpful to us. We’re asking you all to take a similar survey about the new LIS website now – whether you did the previous one or not! The results will help us as we plan for the continuing development of the site.

Check out the survey here. It shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes to complete and can easily be completed during your next shift.

Thanks very much for your help,
Jim Beauchemin, Doreen Bernier, Jess Isler, Carrie Macfarlane, Ian McBride, Barbara Merz, Liz Whitaker-Freitas, Elin Waagen
