Workgroups(s); Circulation Services – Circulation, Reserves and Stacks
Highlights:
• Fine tuning Reserve media bookings workflow
• Goals – setting workgroup goals
• Hold shelves re-configured for safer and easier access; minimize “fall-through” problem
• Web, web, web…Drupal and wiki
• Winter Term – last week of term activity – presentation equipment, papers due, Feb grads finishing up etc.
• Staff – thanks to all for your good work
• Monthly Circ meeting; all-LIS staff meeting
• Student staff – filling regular shifts at Arms an ongoing challenge for WT; Spring schedules done (Music and Main); Arms spring schedule remains almost filled, continue to work with students on finishing it – some changes expected; the only challenge has been a flurry of sub requests and subbing; lots of gaps at Main; questions about summer starting to roll in; planning a celebration for Febs
• Library hours – review, discussion and gathering stats – exploring proposed changes to hours of operation, Feb break, Winter Carnival and editing hours guidelines
• Search list cleanup
• Main – active in the evenings; pretty quiet during days – in spurts; quiet Sunday, other than the filming crew in am
• Arms – pretty quiet; some busy activity in spurts; ILL, NExpress requests still steady; slight peak in ILL
• Weekends – keeping busy with searching, routine and special projects
• Reserves – Collected reserve stats; Reserve processing for S10 in high gear; planning for intersession week; updating wiki with what I’m learning as I go through this process! Scheduling on-call/extra help for 1st week of term; Spring reserves starting to come in at Armstrong and Music
• Loaner Equipment – transferring documentation on equipment, carrels, & lockers to LIS wiki
• Curricular Technology Team – CT team presented to the ADs
• DAT – continued finalizing of proposal for ADs
• Website team – final count-down to launch; content, links, tweaks, wiki, drupal, blog; gathering feedback
• Borrowing page – done! Initial feedback from Circ positive
• Wiki – getting closer to goal of transferring to LIS wiki by 2/1
• Self-booking – a work in progress; tweaking loan rules; lowering barriers
• Thesis Carrel – self-booking for Spring my not be possible
• Stacks – dusting project; keeping up – anticipate another wave of returns at the end of this week as WT wraps up.
• Film screening – tweaking new workflow with Res, Circ and CM
• Starting to plan for PFDP’s
• LS, BLSE/WC starting to stir
• Circ mailbox – manageable volume
Challenges
• Difficult to focus in light of recent sad event
• Laptop (personal) stolen from Main
• Fewer Circ staff scheduled on Fridays
• Guest borrower overdue – needed by faculty
• Getting ready for the big web launch
• Credit card machine out of order – replacement coming soon
• Self-check still out of order
• Water leaks in Main after rainstorm on Monday
• No backstops on hold shelves – things on hold fall through to other side
• Many equipment overdues, hiccups in Circ equipment workflow
• Stats – Zoho falling short of expectations for gate count and non-circ type activity; reporting function – not easy to extract from
• New film screening workflow: refining steps so process is as easy as possible for faculty and for LIS staff
• Carts from P&P – need to revisit procedure; eliminate or reduce?
• Photographing and filming in the Libraries – protocol/guidelines?
• Ripple effects of changes to staffing in other workgroups
• We are not just about books and DVD’s! Main circ as the logical place to hold a carton of eggs for pick-up – what next?
