Happy Winter Term

Welcome back! Hope you all had a wonderful break.
A few beginning of term requests and reminders – please let us know if you have any questions!

Schedules: Review your schedule on Outlook and alert your supervisors to any schedule conflicts.

Work Responsibilities: Be attentive to your work.Your Circ work comes first! When you are scheduled, we expect you to prioritize your Circ work – never allow your personal work and socializing to interfere with your work responsibilities.
Check in with a supervisor when you arrive on shift to ask about assignments, projects etc.
Check in with a supervisor and or shift partner/replacement before leaving to ensure that the desk is always covered.
Check that all returns are checked in and shelved/filed before you leave. If there are 2 of you scheduled at the same time, work closely with your shift partner to share the work equally. Be prepared for the ebb and flow of activity and plan your work accordingly.

Most Winter Term faculty are new to campus and are only here for a very short time – please extend them every courtesy in assisting them with our system, services, resources and procedures.

As the eyes and ears of Circ Services, please pass on any comments and observations, questions, and concerns expressed by our borrowers. Also – feel free to post any suggestions directly on the LIS Suggestions blog.

24/7 hours: See post below – I would welcome comments on 24/7!

Stats: Remember to click on the desktop stats. Help us record all the activity (not just circ – we KNOW you do lots of other things besides checking library materials in/out…) at the Circ desks!
If you are not sure what the stats are – or which button to click when – just ask!

Main Self-check: If there are borrowers waiting in line to check out books during busy periods – remind them that we have a self-check option for books – if they prefer not to wait – their choice. Self-check is a borrowing option, not meant to replace check-out and in of books by staff, but to give the borrower another option to borrow books during busy times.
Always assist first time users – do not simply point to the machine!

Circ Blog: You are required to stay current with updates, etc. by reading the blog when you first arrive on shift. Scheduling will continue to be coordinated through email, but the blog will be the source of all updates related to your work.

Many thanks for your good work – it is a joy and delight to work with you all.

  1. In addition to Elin comments, I would like to remind Armstrong students that at the beginning of your shift you need to check and fill all copiers and printers.

  2. A student at the library couldn’t find a trashcan and Ros and I couldn’t locate one, either. Should we place one near the recycling bin?

  3. I’m not sure if there are many employees who would want to work in the wee hours of the night, especially on a regular basis. A twenty four hour schedule during finals might be appropriate.

  4. Thanks for your comments, Reid!
I have passed on the trash can question to Nancy and Todd.
I appreciate the feedback regarding 24/7.

  5. Reid,
The custodial staff has moved them around, I moved one back next to the pillar across from the circ desk. Also there’s always one in the printer room (203). Also there’s usually 2 along the north windo near the carrels.
