This New York Times Article compares Obama to Hillary using a Mac vs. PC analogy. It also mentions Obama’ s use of blogs and social networking sites. Apparently Obama is also proposing to “make all public government data available to everybody to use as they wish.”
What do you guys think?
Read the NYT article. I think it’s a good example of how Meyrowitz discusses the different levels of analysis. I think in many ways the people who are making the analysis of Obama as more mac-like and Clinton as more pic-like are mixing up content and grammar. It would be interesting to see what the analysis would look like if the websites were reversed.
As someone who has been avidly following the election (at least on the democrats’ side)I have been struck by just how similar the two websites have been. For example when John Edwards stepped out, their home pages both had pictures of him with something to the affect of “thank you John” up within hours. Also both websites have similar drop-down menus and the like for issues and bios.
I also think Obama’s use of blogs and social networking sites is more a function of who is supporters are than what his campaign is doing.
