Hey guys,
Since Jessie and I made our podcast featuring the song “Smell Yo Dick” the artists have recorded a music video. when we were capturing the video for our project, they only had a photo series, no actual music video. So, i present to you all, the official video to the song

George and Kyle’s Game Analysis

So Kyle and I got a little caught up in what we where doing and we made this…. 10 minutes of video game analysis.

I cut down what we had to around five minutes and this version is what we want to show in class tomorrow (or I guess today by now). Watch the ten minute version only if you have way too much time on your hands.

Enjoy.

Import Video Clips into iMovie

Someone just let me know that it took 4 hours to import their footage into iMovie. iMovie wants to convert any video it uses into raw dv, and this process can take a huge amount of time.

But there is a way to get around it.

  1. Create an iMovie project, if you haven’t already.
  2. Close iMovie.
  3. Right-click on the project file and choose “Show Package Contents.”
  4. Browse to the Media folder.
  5. Place your clips in the folder.
  6. Open your iMovie project.
  7. Click the VIEW TRASH button.
  8. Drag your clips to the clips pane.

I’ve been able to do this with .mov, .dv and .mpg.

Polarization of Networks

A more non-political example of Benkler’s argument concerning the audience-orientation of certain media is this Levi’s jeans commerical that alludes to a homosexual couple. From my experience, this commercial was only shown on the more liberal, youth-orientated stations such as Bravo and MTV. I don’t know if most of you have seen this, but I thought I would post it anways.

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

No, this has little to no critical value for us, except that we might argue that YouTube gives us a great way to try to see our own faces in other people.

Anyway, I think this has been roving the vast series of tubes for a while, but I just found it this morning.

Zhu Rangers

I meant to post this awhile ago, but I thought this class might appreciate it. This is the original opening credits to the Zhu Rangers, the show the Power Rangers used clips from to make the american show. I’m writing my thesis on the differences and theory of the two shows and I’ll show you guys a key point in my argument. Notice how the Yellow Ranger is a male in the Japanese version, but is played by a female in the American version? Bet you didn’t see that coming–I know I didn’t

Paranoland

Stepping back from the lovely animation and the overtly Canadian narrator (yay Canada), this is a really interesting little piece. I think its message can be applied to the communities forged within the media spaces we’ve been studying in this course. Fortunately, a third party is not a rare commodity on the intarwebz. It manages to be self-policing… in a dysfunctional kind of way.

Gaming Footage

A couple groups have tries to record footage to dvd, only to find that the disc seems to be empty. Before you toss it, try finalizing the disc back in the machine you recorded from.

  1. Put the dvd back in the tray.
  2. On the remote to the DVD player select options.
  3. Click Disc Information.
  4. Choose Finalize.
  5. It will take a few minutes to finish writing.

Once it is on the dvd, you will need to use MPEG Streamclip, SnapZ or Hanbrake to extract the footage and use it in iMovie or Final Cut.
